Booking a ticket in India is now a days very easy. You simply login to the IRCTC website and can get a ticket in less than 5 minutes. However it's not that easy at TATKAL timings around 10 a.m. If you have a real fast internet connection then only there are chances that you will get tatkal ticket. The situation becomes even more worse during summer time as holidays are going for everyone.
If you never used IRCTC website, then you can simply book your ticket by reservation counter at the railway station. You can get both confirmed and waiting tickets from the counter. However waiting ticket from the IRCTC website is not allowed as it cancels itself automatically if not confirmed at the time of chart preparation.
Here is how to change the name on the confirmed/waiting Indian railway tickets-
Suppose you booked a ticket on your name or any body else in your family ( Blood relation only - Father, Mother, brother, sister, Son ,daughter, husband, wife). Now one of them is not going due to some reason or sickness and any other family member wants to go.
So you do not need to book a new ticket instead you can change the name of the person who is not going to the name of the family member who is willing to go.
Documents required to change the name:
- Application requesting to change the name. Mention your journey details of the ticket as well.
- Blood relation proof like Ration Card, Family register copy.
- ID Proof of the person not going.
- ID proof of the person who is willing to go.
If you have a IRCTC eticket, then you must take 2 xerox copies of the ticket.
Next step -
Go to the Chief Ticket Supervisor of important station ( Big railway junction stations have Chief ticket supervisor). Their office is mainly located somewhere around the main reservation counters. Show them the application along with documents listed above.
It's just a matter of 2 minutes and he will change the name on the ticket online. If it's a counter ticket, he will print a new one. If it's a IRCTC ticket, then on one of the xerox copies, he will put a stamp and signature writing that name has been changed. He will also mention the name of the passenger whose name is changed to whom.
There is NO FEES involved in the whole process.
If anyone asks any amount of money, object saying that there is no money involved. Complain to the station master against the person asking for money if necessary.
